Aston Business School, Aston University
'I have the knowledge and the confidence to do what I want to do and I had a fantastic time during the course.'Jasone Andonegui, full-time MBA student 2003/04
Academic excellenceThe 2005 FT Executive MBA Ranking placed Aston in the top 20 in Europe, and the 2005 FT Business Schools ranking placed Aston in the top 30 in Europe. In 2007, the Aston MBA was also listed in The Financial Times' ?32 of the top Distance Learning MBA programmes'. The 2006 Economist Intelligence Unit Which MBA? guidebook placed Aston in the top 20 in Europe.
The quality of the Aston MBA rests on the excellence of the teaching and research, and the very strong links with employers. All MBA modules feature corporate connections and an international dimension. With more than 25 nationalities represented last year, the programme has a truly international environment essential for those aiming to be global managers.
The Aston MBAThe full-time MBA starts in September each year, with a two-week induction programme designed to enable students to adjust to the challenges ahead and hit the ground running. The Aston MBA programme has a straightforward, logical structure, which is the same for all modes of study. Students follow twelve taught modules, ten of which are compulsory. Two elective modules are then chosen, which include all the major areas of interest. Students can then tailor their studies to meet their own particular interests and personal development needs. On completion of the taught part of the programme, students proceed to a ?live' business project. They already have all the skills needed to accomplish this by attending regular project workshops throughout their time at Aston.
Facilities and resourcesIn January 2006, Aston opened brand-new purpose-built teaching facilities exclusively for the use of MBA students in the School's Nelson Building HQ. These include new lecture theatres, a common room and teaching rooms, as well as an MBA study and lounge area. This excellent facility allows all full-time and part-time Executive MBA students the opportunity to learn and socialise together in an encouraging environment tailored to their needs. Included in the Aston MBA tuition fee is a one-week study visit to another leading European business school, key textbooks for all modules, the use of DVD recordings of lectures (held in Aston's library), and also membership of AMBA and the Chartered Management Institute for the year of study.
The road to successAston's graduates can be found working in senior management positions around the world. For banking executives in Hong Kong, industrialists in India and company presidents in the USA, not to mention hundreds of senior managers in the UK, the Aston MBA has been the key that has helped open the door to employment opportunities and career success.

Full time MBACommences mid-September.
The full time MBA course is taught over three terms and followed up with a business project. You will complete up to five modules each term, with each module based on 100 learning hours and 30-40 hours in class. It is possible to complete the course by the end of July if you have an early offer of employment.
Full time students will visit and study at a top European Business School for a week, which is included in the cost. In previous years, MBA students have visited New York, Nice, Paris, Barcelona and Leuven. In turn, we host MBA students from our international partners.
You can transfer to the part time or distance learning routes during the year, if a job offer or personal commitments demand.
Part time MBACommences January & October.
The taught part of the programme can be completed in 21 months, after which there is a project of up to 6 months’ duration. Most part time students study 2 modules per term for 6 terms. They then complete a project that typically takes another 6 months.
You would study on campus once a week for three hours per module, either during the day or in the evening. You would also attend regular skills workshops run by our MBA Careers Advisor. At this pace, you would need to do 6-10 hours of private study a week, too.
You can swap to Distance Learning and back, change the pace at which you study, or take breaks of up to a year if work or personal commitments demand.
MBA by Distance Learning(Available in the UK and the rest of Europe only). Commences January, April & October.
For many years the Aston MBA has been pioneering distance learning. You will be sent DVDs that contain a recording of the actual lecture that was delivered at Aston to the oncampus students, plus PDF files of notes and handouts. It’s like having a seat in the classroom but without the need to leave your home or office. And three times a year you must attend a study weekend here at Aston. Examinations also take place on-campus.
Unlike many other business schools, the degree awarded is the regular Aston MBA, not a special Distance Learning version.
All students study ten Core Modules. In addition, they choose two Elective Modules. Finally, they choose a Project in a field of interest to them.
Many students choose to be awarded a generalist MBA. But by linking your choice of Elective Modules to the subject of your project, you can gain a specialist MBA in your chosen field. You could then be awarded:
MBA e-BusinessMBA FinanceMBA International BusinessMBA Managing Public ServicesMBA MarketingMBA Leading People for Competitive AdvantageMBA Strategic Management
For example, for a MBA Marketing, you would choose Marketing Strategy and International Marketing as your Elective Modules. Alternatively, you may choose any 2 electives and develop a project in any subject to be awarded a general MBA.
Whatever option you choose, in every module you will be drawing upon the world-class research done by our academics, and using it to reflect upon real-world business issues. Every module also has a strong international element.
Professional ExemptionsAll modes of the MBA are accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA)
Tsine - FE MBA Program at University of California, Irvine
The Merage Fully Employed MBA provides a seamless connection between classroom and career. As one of our three professional MBA programs, the work-school connection is more direct and effective. One night or weekend, you’re in class discussing key management challenges or learning a new way to evaluate an opportunity – the next day, you’re in the office applying what you have learned. You are able to maintain your career momentum, increase your value to the organization, and be recognized for bringing new ideas to the table.
Our faculty and MBA curriculum are ideally aligned to provide the knowledge and skills that MBAs need to lead innovation wherever they go in their careers. We’re building on our reputation for expertise in how information technology is transforming the practice of management, and extending that approach into features of our acclaimed MBA program curriculum. It is a pioneering approach that will ensure that our graduates will be leaders of growth and strategy in the global economy for years to come.
The primary challenge facing business leaders today is making decisions that deliver profitable and sustainable growth. They must do this in an environment where competition is global, product and service innovation is crucial, and companies have access to ever-increasing volumes of data.
At the Merage School, you will master essential business concepts and skills, but never lose sight of the powerful forces that shape business and drive future growth. And you will learn how to harness those forces to your advantage.
You will complete a total of 21 courses: 12 core courses, three off-campus residential courses (two in Southern California and one international), and six electives. The program is structured to enable you to progress logically through material, with one course building on another. The core courses cover the fundamentals of management and build on the foundation for advanced elective study. The three off-campus residential courses augment the core curriculum and provide for more intensive learning and interaction with faculty and fellow FEMBA students. Electives enable you to develop additional depth in a discipline of your choice and to tailor the program to meet your needs.
You must complete a minimum of 92 units and maintain a 3.0 minimum overall grade point average. If you have completed substantial undergraduate work in a particular area, you may petition to waive a related course. However, this will not reduce the total number of courses or units required for the degree. Students who waive classes typically substitute additional electives.

T1 - The Duke MBA, Fuqua School of Business, Duke University
This breadth, built on our world-class multi-disciplinary faculty, offers you what we call our Research Advantage — an unparalleled ability to help you go beyond the “basics” and bring the insights of cutting-edge research in all subject areas of relevance to your career.
And with our global focus and the opportunity to concentrate on an area of particular interest within a general management framework, the Duke MBA provides outstanding preparation for a career in today’s complex, multicultural, and multinational business environment.
As a Duke MBA student, you will start the process of developing collaborative leadership and organizational management skills along with a global outlook the moment you step into our program, during the first term “Global Institute”.
You will then dive into a rigorous exploration of the major functional areas in business, gaining a firm foundation in economics, quantitative analysis and statistics, accounting, finance, marketing, strategy, and operations management, while reinforcing your functional skills with additional management communications education.
As you continue in the program, you have the choice of undertaking a wide-ranging general management education designed to suit your individual goals, or of focusing more directly on particular career paths through a variety of inter-disciplinary concentration and certificate opportunities.
FORMAT:Flexible and Focused Duke MBA courses are taught in six-week terms. This arrangement allows you to take more courses (three or four per term) with the same number of faculty contact hours as in a more traditional system—giving you greater breadth of knowledge without sacrificing depth.
Thanks to this term schedule, you will have taken at least five elective courses by the end of your first year—more if you exempt core courses or elect to take the FleX Term, a two-week winter term with key career electives that help you prepare for summer internship opportunities.
This structure gives you the opportunity to explore a particular area in more depth, which provides a competitive edge as well as additional knowledge to draw upon as you consider, interview for, and then begin your summer internship.
This flexibility continues through your second year, when you can select from a broad menu of elective courses as you move toward job interviews and career choices.
This flexible, yet focused, format with a rich array of courses that are informed by the latest research and business trends offers you the opportunity to gain both the depth needed for early career success and the breadth needed for lifelong success.
CONTENT:Global Knowledge At Duke, your intellectual range knows no boundaries.
The Duke MBA program begins with a three-week-long Global Institute held in August. The newly implemented institute features two core courses—Leadership, Ethics, and Organization and Global Institutions and Environment. The Global Institute begins the process of helping you become a collaborative leader with a deep understanding of the multifaceted global business environment.
With an internationally experienced faculty, a curriculum informed by global business trends, a cosmopolitan student body, and partnerships with leading corporations and public organizations worldwide, your Duke MBA will help you graduate with an international perspective on business that gives you a competitive edge in today’s global economy.
You will also have multiple opportunities to experience business and cultural practices in other countries firsthand through our extensive array of Global Academic Travel Experience (GATE) courses and exchange programs – indeed, most of our students chose to take advantage of these programs.
For more information regarding international coursework and learning opportunities, please visit the International Center
CONCENTRATIONS:Inter-disciplinary Depth The Duke MBA offers optional specialized Concentrations in all of the major functional areas (such as accounting, decision sciences, finance, management, marketing, operations, and strategic consulting) and in topical areas (such as entrepreneurship, international business, leadership and ethics, and social entrepreneurship). Each concentration identifies a set of electives from which you will choose six courses.
Duke MBA concentrations have a common “4-2” structure, where the concentration typically has four courses in a focal area (e.g., Finance) and two courses from other areas that provide supporting breadth for the focal concentration.
This structure of thoughtful, supporting breadth for the focal concentration is absolutely unique among leading business schools – this interdisciplinary feature connects directly to Duke’s tradition of providing a general management education and our reputation for innovation through collaboration. As organizations work toward improved coordination of organizational activities, so, too, your education should reflect how functional activities and skills can be enriched and strengthened by other perspectives.
Concentrations are not required. You may choose none, one, or a maximum of two concentrations. If you choose two concentrations, think of the first concentration providing depth needed for early career success and the second concentration providing breadth needed for lifelong career success. Note that even if you choose two concentrations, you still have room in your schedule for additional electives to customize your MBA experience for either greater depth or breadth, as needed.
Information regarding concentration offerings can be found here.
No matter your career path, your grounding in the principles and practices of general management coupled with opportunities to specialize in a particular set of skills means that your Duke MBA provides a strategic, global perspective that will serve you well throughout their careers.
CERTIFICATES OF EXCELLENCE:Specialized Depth and Breadth Along with Concentrations, the Duke MBA offers several intense Certificate of Excellence programs. Certificates of Excellence serve as a complement to Concentrations, allowing you to distinguish yourself with greater depth of course work in a given area. We are introducing new Certificate of Excellence programs in Finance and Marketing that will likely have depth of six to eight courses in addition to the two distribution requirements as in Concentrations, together with demonstration of above-average academic excellence in the chosen area. As a companion to Concentrations, Certificates of Excellence allow you to send a strong signal about your depth, and the quality of your depth, in a single area. At the same time, if you choose this path you are required to take two additional courses, in total, to ensure that depth does not come at the expense of breadth of general management skills and perspectives necessary for lifelong career success.
HEALTH SECTOR MANAGEMENT:A Certificate Program for Fast Track Careers If you aspire to a business career in the health care industry—whether in pharmaceutical leadership, biotechnology business development, hospital administration, health sector consulting, health sector investment, or other segments of the industry —Duke offers one of the most respected education programs in the world. The HSM program adds a specialized understanding of the unique facets of the health care industry to the general management skills you will acquire in during your core program, teaching you skills you will need to steer your business through the complex issues surrounding health care.

T3 - PhD in Marketing at Duke University
Marketing is the process whereby demands for products, services and ideas are anticipated, managed and satisfied. This broad area of study has generated research at three levels. The first, or macro level, examines factors affecting the structure and efficiency of markets and the profitability of firms within markets. Often such explorations use economic theory. One example is the study of the effect of product differentiation on the optimal channel structure and profitability for the firms within an industry. A second level of research is at the managerial level. The emphasis at this level is on improving the decision making abilities of managers. The methodology used is very diverse. It includes compiling descriptive information on how managers now go about making decisions, developing heuristics to augment current practices and building normative models of how managers should make decisions. Work at this level can be useful to both the public and business sectors. For example, one can develop new methods for testing advertising copy, examine the effects on purchase behavior of providing nutritional information in a grocery store or build an expert system which makes an individual manager's expertise available throughout the firm.
The third, or micro, level is concerned with understanding the factors that influence buyer behavior. Often the theoretical base for these studies is psychological. Examples of studies at this level are determining the differential effect of a verbal or pictorial advertising message on the consumer's brand preferences, testing the effects of Internet search agents on consumer choice, or examining emotionally difficult consumer choices.
The Ph.D. Program in Marketing at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business is designed to provide students with the training necessary for a successful research and teaching career in any of the above areas. This training is done by having students take courses selected to meet their individual needs and interests, work with faculty members on joint research, conduct a series of original research projects which ultimately lead to a dissertation, and assist in the teaching of marketing courses.
The Ph.D. program in marketing has an outstanding global reputation for placing students in preeminent business schools. Faculty invest heavily in training and working one-on-one with doctoral students to teach them how to think about and do path-breaking research.
Requirements
The marketing Ph.D. student's course work at Fuqua is individually designed to provide both breadth and depth in specific areas of marketing, such as consumer behavior, marketing models, marketing strategy and planning and marketing measurement and analysis. Progress toward the degree involves successfully completing coursework, first- and second-year research papers, a comprehensive exam (which normally is taken at the start of the sixth semester) and the dissertation. In addition, students participate in research seminars and assist the faculty in research and teaching activities.
Students are encouraged to work with individual faculty members on original research projects. Often this work leads to publications authored jointly with faculty. Such an approach gives the student a good start toward a career in research and provides the guidance necessary to allow Ph.D. candidates to conduct successfully his or her own research. These research activities start during the first year in the program and culminate with the thesis. Total time in the program is scheduled for five years, although this timetable is a function of the individual's progress once admitted. Normally students are given tuition grants while enrolled in the program plus research assistantships and stipends for five years.
The marketing faculty's experience in training Ph.D.'s has indicated that it is not necessary for the student to have had much coursework in business administration or marketing prior to entering the program. Instead, we find courses in related disciplines such as economics, mathematics, statistics or psychology provide the student with the background necessary for integrating and understanding the concepts taught in our program. Admission depends on the student's GMAT or GRE scores, recommendations from faculty, grades and other factors such as work and research experience.
Job Opportunities
Our marketing faculty has close contacts with all of the leading business schools and is willing to work with students to place them in positions consistent with their personal professional goals. Our graduates have been employed at Stanford University, MIT, the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, Northwestern University, the University of Arizona, Carnegie Mellon University, INSEAD, the University of North Carolina, the University of Michigan, and the University of Wisconsin, among others.
The Marketing Faculty
The faculty has training and abilities in a broad range of subject areas, such as economic analyses, cognitive and social psychology, strategy, statistics and decision making. This knowledge base has led the faculty into a series of different research areas, including the measurement of consumer beliefs, attitudes and values; the study of both the consumer and managerial decision making process; the creation and use of analytic tools to guide marketing strategy for the allocation of marketing resources (e.g., promotion, distribution, pricing) within the firm and economic analyses of marketing issues.

Going on exchange has increased my marketability as a grad, taught me a new curriculum, challenged myself to take in a new culture, and provided lifelong friendships from all over the world. TBDS - PhD Programs at the Drucker School, Claremont University
Except in rare cases, applications are not accepted for the Ph.D. in Management program until after a student has completed appropriate graduate coursework at CGU. Those interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in Management degree at the Drucker School who do not hold an MBA should first apply to the MBA program or one of the school’s Executive Management programs and successfully complete at least one year of coursework. Individuals who already hold an MBA or Executive Management degree from another institution are strongly encouraged to earn an Executive Management Certificate at the Drucker School.
Admission is highly competitive. Only a few students are accepted each year. To be admitted, an applicant must secure a sponsor from our core faculty and present a detailed Plan of Study developed with the sponsoring faculty member. Applicants must have extensive familiarity with research in progress at the Drucker School. Those who have not completed Claremont Graduate University's master's or executive management program are therefore less likely to be admitted.
Recent (within five years of application) GMAT scores of 600 or higher and consistently high grade point averages in prior academic work are minimum requirements.
The Ph.D. in Management program requires completion of 72 semester units of coursework, including 24 semester units of management courses, a minimum of 12 hours of research methodology at the doctoral level, and a maximum of 12 hours of independent study with the sponsoring faculty member. After completing at least 32 units, but not more than 48 units, a major paper of publishable quality, equivalent to a Master’s thesis and demonstrating breadth in the chosen research area, is required. The sponsor and two additional faculty members administer an open oral examination. Upon successful completion of these requirements and all remaining coursework, a second paper, which serves as the dissertation proposal, is required. The student’s doctoral committee, consisting of the faculty sponsor and two other eligible members of the faculty, administer a second, open oral examination. Successful students are then “advanced to candidacy.” To complete the Ph.D. program, the student must submit and successfully defend the dissertation within seven years from the date of admission to the program.
For additional information regarding University Ph.D. requirements see the Admissions website.
Recommended reading for prospective Ph.D. students is Rhythms of Academic Life, Peter Frost and M. Susan Taylor, Sage Publications, 1996, available through Amazon.com.
PhD in Financial Engineering
Overview Financial derivatives are continuing to play increasingly important roles in modern finance, not only with regard to the management of global investment and corporate risk, but also as a means for designing better personal investment and estate planning portfolios. Necessarily, this makes the design of such products more difficult, placing in higher demand experts trained in the advanced mathematics and investment techniques of modern finance.
A Master of Science in Financial Engineering (MSFE) or comparable degree provides only part of the training such experts will need as they work to analyze, price, and invent the innovative products that modern personal, corporate, and global finance will demand. This training, which can lead to the creation of new knowledge in the field, is appropriately achieved through the depth and breadth of study undertaken in the pursuit of a Ph.D.
Requirements
All Financial Engineering Ph.D. students are required to first complete the 48 unit MSFE program at CGU with at least a 3.0 GPA, take 2 advanced (300 level) mathematics courses as part of their MSFE electives, and pass two written preliminary examinations: one in the mathematics of finance, based on the 4 MSFE core courses in mathematics, and one in advanced finance, based on the 4 MSFE core courses in finance. Upon successfully completing these examinations, students are required to take an additional 24 units of advanced course work, independent study, and directed research in mathematics and finance. During completion of the final 24 units, students are required to pass their last two preliminary examinations: one based on their advanced course work in mathematics, and one based on their advanced course work in finance.
Upon completion of the last two written preliminary examinations and the 72 total units, students select a qualifying committee of 4 professors consisting of at least one faculty member representing the School of Mathematical Sciences and at least one representing Finance at the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management. The oral qualifying examination is administered by the qualifying committee to examine the student's preparation for research in his or her chosen area of Financial Engineering. Upon Successful completion of the oral qualifying examination, the student is advanced to the candidacy for the Ph.D. At this time, the student chooses a dissertation committee of 4 professors, which much be co-chaired by a School of Mathematical Sciences faculty member and a Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management faculty member in Finance. The completed Ph.D. dissertation, based on the research outlined in the oral qualifying examination, is defended before the dissertation committee.AdmissionApplications are not accepted for the Ph.D. in Financial Engineering. Those interested in the degree must first apply for admission to the MSFE program. Upon completion of 32 units of coursework toward the MSFE, students may apply for admission to the Ph.D. Admission is not guaranteed, and is based on a student's entire record.

TZZ - Full Time MBA, University of California, Irvine
You will begin your MBA program with core courses that build the foundation of your degree. These classes teach the fundamental concepts needed to deepen your knowledge in functional areas of business. You can choose one elective during your first year and begin tailoring your experience to your specific career goals.
The MBA Career Center plays an important role during your first year of the program – fostering the development of lifelong career management skills. The Center facilitates a carefully designed workshop series that will help you develop your career strategy and a marketing plan for your job search. Workshop topics include career- and self-assessment, market appraisal, resume and cover letter writing, networking, interviewing, and job-offer evaluation. Many social functions, mixers, and events will also help you strengthen your bond with fellow classmates, faculty, and executives from the region.
Internships
Between your first and second year, you will apply your knowledge while gaining invaluable real-world experience. The majority of our students spend the summer in exciting internships at a broad range of companies, including:
Allergan Apria Healthcare Cisco Systems, Inc. Conagra Conexant Systems, Inc. Deloitte & Touche Ernst & Young Experian Ford Motor Company Fox Entertainment General Electric Gateway HSBC IBM Intel Corporation KPMG Linksys Mazda North American Operations Morgan Stanley PricewaterhouseCoopers 20th Century Fox Verizon The Second YearYour second year includes a variety of innovative electives designed to help you succeed in your career – whether you plan to join a large company or become an entrepreneur. And you will discover that the three themes of our program – strategic innovation, information technology, and analytic decision-making – are interwoven through elective courses for the duration of your experience. During the spring of your second year, you can enroll in our newly launched “futures” course. Students will enjoy expert presentations on “future-driven” trends and executive presentations that interpret and discuss the business implications of these trends. Course projects will give students hands-on experience with trend analysis and teach them forward-thinking strategy skills.
As an extension of course topics and global trend analysis, Merage offers opportunities to gain first-hand knowledge of the cultures and management practices in other industrialized countries. In your second year, you can participate in the quarter-long International Exchange Program at partner schools in Asia, Europe, and Latin America. You can also study abroad during the week-long International Study Trip.
Sophisticated learning tools at the UC Irvine Paul Merage School of Business include some of the most technologically sophisticated classroom and research facilities in the country. The school pioneered the use of networked laptops in
Our Web-based intranet site, called Catalyst, uses state-of-the-art technology to maximize the flow of information between instructors and students. Catalyst is so progressive that it was named one of the top 50 intranet sites in the nation by CIO magazine.
Admissions process Each year, we have the privilege and responsibility of reviewing hundreds of applications for admission. Because of our relatively small, team-based program, we consider candidates as individuals—both in and out of the classroom. We welcome applicants from a wide variety of undergraduate disciplines, and every student’s learning experience is enhanced by the diversity of educational backgrounds in the classroom.
We evaluate each candidate’s quantitative and qualitative abilities as we seek individuals whose goals and aspirations are aligned with what the Merage MBA offers. And we admit those who exhibit the strongest potential to become successful members of the Merage network and outstanding global business leaders.
We strongly encourage you to apply early, as availability becomes limited throughout the admissions process. All completed applications are reviewed by an admissions representative, and qualified candidates will be contacted for a personal interview. Admission is for the fall quarter only, and applications are not complete until all items on the admission checklist have been received. We highly recommend attending an information session and/or visiting the campus as part of your selection process. Both are excellent ways to become familiar with the Merage MBA program, the campus environment, and our staff and faculty.

TJWTN - Marshall MBA, Professionals and Managers
This 33 month program consists of two major components: core classes and elective classes. The first 12 months of the program are comprised of core classes that provide you with a solid foundation in all of the major business disciplines through careful sequencing of courses from each functional area. Following the core experience, all MBA.PM students take PM.GLOBE, a semester-long macroeconomics course enhanced by a week-long overseas trip. You complete your MBA degree by enrolling in elective courses that allow you to design a concentration that meets your unique goals and career objectives. At the completion of the program, you will be considered an expert in the field of the concentration you pursued.
To learn more, attend an information session.
The DifferenceAlthough upon completion of the MBA.PM Program you will have earned the same MBA degree as you would in a full-time program, we have tailored the MBA.PM Program to truly meet the needs of a working professional.
Evening ClassesClasses in the MBA.PM Program are held between 6:00pm and 9:40pm twice a week. We believe its easier to fit in an extra three hours at the end of a busy day than it is to give up all or part of a weekend.
Campus ChoicesYou can choose to complete your first year of core classes at our new Orange County Center in Irvine instead of at the University Park Campus in Los Angeles if the commute is more convenient. Courses at both campuses are taught by highly qualified faculty -- frequently the same professors -- and both campuses have excellent facilities including staff, computer labs, and study rooms.
Flexible PaceThe MBA.PM Program generally takes three years to complete. However, after you complete your first year of core coursework, you set the pace for completing the program. We understand that work demands may change, and you are allowed up to five years within which to complete your degree.

TJMS - The Business of Medicine, Marshall School of Business
With the retrenchment of the technology sector, it could be argued that health care is currently the most dynamic industry in the United States. It continues to become more complex through managed care consolidation and the ongoing downward pressure to manage costs despite mounting legal exposure, increased life expectancy and the aging baby-boomer population.
The obvious and early casualty of these trends has been the physician's salary. Despite the unmatched expertise that physicians achieve through a grueling education, many specialties including general practitioners, family practitioners, and Internists have seen their salary growth flatten. Another, more subtle yet more meaningful casualty has been the control physicians feel they have lost to hospital administrators, HMO executives, lawyers and politicians.
These industry conditions have created a fundamental yet relatively underserved need on the part of physicians -the need to take back control of their futures and the health care industry. USC 's Master of Medical Management (MMM) degree meets these needs by providing the formal business education physicians seek in order to realize their professional goals whether these are career advancement, transition or flexibility. The MMM was created with these needs in mind and provides the following benefits:
Career Growth - The knowledge and credentials earned through the MMM allows its students to pursue and be successful in executive positions whether in a group practice, hospital or HMO.
Quality - The MMM has been meticulously designed and taught by senior USC faculty
Flexibility - The unique design of USC 's MMM allows physicians to earn a rigorous business education from a prestigious university without interrupting their careers.
Time - The Master of Medical Management is completed in only one year.
CMEs - Students get the extra benefit of earning 50 CMEs upon completion of the program.
Relationships - in class sessions allow students to forge a bond that will last a lifetime with each other as well as with faculty.
Whereas the typical executive MBA covers a wide range of business and industry structures and public health degrees stray too far from business and management, the MMM focuses on business and entrepreneurialism in a health care context.
The program is an integrated management curriculum taught by faculty in the Marshall School of Business, the School of Policy, Planning and Development and the Keck School of Medicine.

TJKI - Master of Business Taxation, University of Southern California
The Master of Business Taxation (M.B.T.) program is designed to develop the skills and expertise professionals need to assist individuals and firms with the myriad of tax legislation and regulation at the federal, state, and local levels. While gaining technical expertise is a central aim of those enrolled in the program, this expertise is not enough. Taxation encompasses law, economics, accounting and politics, and the astute tax advisor must understand all of the factors that influence the making of tax law and its administration. As important as learning the law and mastering research skills is the ability to communicate professional insights to others. The program provides a broad understanding of taxation, an appreciation for the complexities of decision-making, and practice in explaining the tax implications of various courses of action.
The M.B.T. program provides an opportunity to examine tax topics thoroughly in an organized, rigorous fashion. Both full- and part-time students examine in depth an area of taxation, such as estate planning or taxation of foreign operations. Tax practice does not provide sufficient opportunities to study all of the areas influenced by taxation, nor does it allow the time to take an in-depth look at one area. In the M.B.T. program, a student develops an overview of the important areas of tax practice and builds expertise in specific topics.
The career opportunities today in the area of taxation are as great as the need for professional tax advice. The M.B.T. program prepares men and women for major roles in planning and decision-making.

TGJR - Master of Accounting at Southern California University
The Master of Accounting program (M.Acc.) prepares graduates for careers in public accounting, industry and government. USC's M.Acc. program is one of the first professional accounting curricula integrating undergraduate and graduate education in the nation. The objectives of the program include developing the sound conceptual, technical, analytical and communication skills that are required to succeed in the accounting profession. The program employs a rigorous case analysis approach which requires students to exercise their analytical abilities and develop effective verbal and written communication skills. The program also seeks to instill a deep appreciation and respect for the crucial role of the independent accountant in our free enterprise economy. This perspective provides the bedrock of the professional attitudes and responsibilities of CPAs today.
Students have the opportunity to study accounting in greater depth than is typically provided in an undergraduate accounting program or an MBA program with a concentration in accounting.
Students may apply to the M.Acc. program after completing a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university or during their senior year. An undergraduate accounting or business major is not necessary, nor is work experience a requirement. In this world of "re-engineering," the term "public accounting firm" is becoming obsolete. CPA firms now view themselves as "professional service firms." This dramatically changes the role of the CPA. The profession requires highly visible, articulate business professionals with the ability to interact on many levels within a client's organization. This requires individuals with diverse backgrounds. The profession is ideally suited for those with accounting, business, liberal arts and sciences undergraduate degrees.
