TZZ - Full Time MBA, University of California, Irvine

The First Year

You will begin your MBA program with core courses that build the foundation of your degree. These classes teach the fundamental concepts needed to deepen your knowledge in functional areas of business. You can choose one elective during your first year and begin tailoring your experience to your specific career goals.

The MBA Career Center plays an important role during your first year of the program – fostering the development of lifelong career management skills. The Center facilitates a carefully designed workshop series that will help you develop your career strategy and a marketing plan for your job search. Workshop topics include career- and self-assessment, market appraisal, resume and cover letter writing, networking, interviewing, and job-offer evaluation. Many social functions, mixers, and events will also help you strengthen your bond with fellow classmates, faculty, and executives from the region.

Internships

Between your first and second year, you will apply your knowledge while gaining invaluable real-world experience. The majority of our students spend the summer in exciting internships at a broad range of companies, including:
Allergan Apria Healthcare Cisco Systems, Inc. Conagra Conexant Systems, Inc. Deloitte & Touche Ernst & Young Experian Ford Motor Company Fox Entertainment General Electric Gateway HSBC IBM Intel Corporation KPMG Linksys Mazda North American Operations Morgan Stanley PricewaterhouseCoopers 20th Century Fox Verizon The Second YearYour second year includes a variety of innovative electives designed to help you succeed in your career – whether you plan to join a large company or become an entrepreneur. And you will discover that the three themes of our program – strategic innovation, information technology, and analytic decision-making – are interwoven through elective courses for the duration of your experience. During the spring of your second year, you can enroll in our newly launched “futures” course. Students will enjoy expert presentations on “future-driven” trends and executive presentations that interpret and discuss the business implications of these trends. Course projects will give students hands-on experience with trend analysis and teach them forward-thinking strategy skills.

As an extension of course topics and global trend analysis, Merage offers opportunities to gain first-hand knowledge of the cultures and management practices in other industrialized countries. In your second year, you can participate in the quarter-long International Exchange Program at partner schools in Asia, Europe, and Latin America. You can also study abroad during the week-long International Study Trip.

Sophisticated learning tools at the UC Irvine Paul Merage School of Business include some of the most technologically sophisticated classroom and research facilities in the country. The school pioneered the use of networked laptops in

Our Web-based intranet site, called Catalyst, uses state-of-the-art technology to maximize the flow of information between instructors and students. Catalyst is so progressive that it was named one of the top 50 intranet sites in the nation by CIO magazine.

Admissions process Each year, we have the privilege and responsibility of reviewing hundreds of applications for admission. Because of our relatively small, team-based program, we consider candidates as individuals—both in and out of the classroom. We welcome applicants from a wide variety of undergraduate disciplines, and every student’s learning experience is enhanced by the diversity of educational backgrounds in the classroom.

We evaluate each candidate’s quantitative and qualitative abilities as we seek individuals whose goals and aspirations are aligned with what the Merage MBA offers. And we admit those who exhibit the strongest potential to become successful members of the Merage network and outstanding global business leaders.

We strongly encourage you to apply early, as availability becomes limited throughout the admissions process. All completed applications are reviewed by an admissions representative, and qualified candidates will be contacted for a personal interview. Admission is for the fall quarter only, and applications are not complete until all items on the admission checklist have been received. We highly recommend attending an information session and/or visiting the campus as part of your selection process. Both are excellent ways to become familiar with the Merage MBA program, the campus environment, and our staff and faculty.

TJWTN - Marshall MBA, Professionals and Managers

The ProgramThe Marshall MBA Program for Professionals and Managers (MBA.PM) is our evening MBA program for students who wish to remain fully employed while pursuing their graduate studies.
This 33 month program consists of two major components: core classes and elective classes. The first 12 months of the program are comprised of core classes that provide you with a solid foundation in all of the major business disciplines through careful sequencing of courses from each functional area. Following the core experience, all MBA.PM students take PM.GLOBE, a semester-long macroeconomics course enhanced by a week-long overseas trip. You complete your MBA degree by enrolling in elective courses that allow you to design a concentration that meets your unique goals and career objectives. At the completion of the program, you will be considered an expert in the field of the concentration you pursued.
To learn more, attend an information session.
The DifferenceAlthough upon completion of the MBA.PM Program you will have earned the same MBA degree as you would in a full-time program, we have tailored the MBA.PM Program to truly meet the needs of a working professional.
Evening ClassesClasses in the MBA.PM Program are held between 6:00pm and 9:40pm twice a week. We believe its easier to fit in an extra three hours at the end of a busy day than it is to give up all or part of a weekend.
Campus ChoicesYou can choose to complete your first year of core classes at our new Orange County Center in Irvine instead of at the University Park Campus in Los Angeles if the commute is more convenient. Courses at both campuses are taught by highly qualified faculty -- frequently the same professors -- and both campuses have excellent facilities including staff, computer labs, and study rooms.
Flexible PaceThe MBA.PM Program generally takes three years to complete. However, after you complete your first year of core coursework, you set the pace for completing the program. We understand that work demands may change, and you are allowed up to five years within which to complete your degree.

TJMS - The Business of Medicine, Marshall School of Business

The Business of Medicine

With the retrenchment of the technology sector, it could be argued that health care is currently the most dynamic industry in the United States. It continues to become more complex through managed care consolidation and the ongoing downward pressure to manage costs despite mounting legal exposure, increased life expectancy and the aging baby-boomer population.
The obvious and early casualty of these trends has been the physician's salary. Despite the unmatched expertise that physicians achieve through a grueling education, many specialties including general practitioners, family practitioners, and Internists have seen their salary growth flatten. Another, more subtle yet more meaningful casualty has been the control physicians feel they have lost to hospital administrators, HMO executives, lawyers and politicians.
These industry conditions have created a fundamental yet relatively underserved need on the part of physicians -the need to take back control of their futures and the health care industry. USC 's Master of Medical Management (MMM) degree meets these needs by providing the formal business education physicians seek in order to realize their professional goals whether these are career advancement, transition or flexibility. The MMM was created with these needs in mind and provides the following benefits:
Career Growth - The knowledge and credentials earned through the MMM allows its students to pursue and be successful in executive positions whether in a group practice, hospital or HMO.
Quality - The MMM has been meticulously designed and taught by senior USC faculty
Flexibility - The unique design of USC 's MMM allows physicians to earn a rigorous business education from a prestigious university without interrupting their careers.
Time - The Master of Medical Management is completed in only one year.
CMEs - Students get the extra benefit of earning 50 CMEs upon completion of the program.
Relationships - in class sessions allow students to forge a bond that will last a lifetime with each other as well as with faculty.
Whereas the typical executive MBA covers a wide range of business and industry structures and public health degrees stray too far from business and management, the MMM focuses on business and entrepreneurialism in a health care context.
The program is an integrated management curriculum taught by faculty in the Marshall School of Business, the School of Policy, Planning and Development and the Keck School of Medicine.

TJKI - Master of Business Taxation, University of Southern California

Understanding taxation is critical to understanding every business decision and many personal decisions as well. Whether starting a business or starting a family, tax planning must be done. Because of the complexity of the tax law and its pervasive influence, people facing tax decisions routinely call on tax professionals for advice in planning and structuring their affairs in order to comply with the law and to ensure economic good sense.

The Master of Business Taxation (M.B.T.) program is designed to develop the skills and expertise professionals need to assist individuals and firms with the myriad of tax legislation and regulation at the federal, state, and local levels. While gaining technical expertise is a central aim of those enrolled in the program, this expertise is not enough. Taxation encompasses law, economics, accounting and politics, and the astute tax advisor must understand all of the factors that influence the making of tax law and its administration. As important as learning the law and mastering research skills is the ability to communicate professional insights to others. The program provides a broad understanding of taxation, an appreciation for the complexities of decision-making, and practice in explaining the tax implications of various courses of action.
The M.B.T. program provides an opportunity to examine tax topics thoroughly in an organized, rigorous fashion. Both full- and part-time students examine in depth an area of taxation, such as estate planning or taxation of foreign operations. Tax practice does not provide sufficient opportunities to study all of the areas influenced by taxation, nor does it allow the time to take an in-depth look at one area. In the M.B.T. program, a student develops an overview of the important areas of tax practice and builds expertise in specific topics.

The career opportunities today in the area of taxation are as great as the need for professional tax advice. The M.B.T. program prepares men and women for major roles in planning and decision-making.

TGJR - Master of Accounting at Southern California University

Master of Accounting

The Master of Accounting program (M.Acc.) prepares graduates for careers in public accounting, industry and government. USC's M.Acc. program is one of the first professional accounting curricula integrating undergraduate and graduate education in the nation. The objectives of the program include developing the sound conceptual, technical, analytical and communication skills that are required to succeed in the accounting profession. The program employs a rigorous case analysis approach which requires students to exercise their analytical abilities and develop effective verbal and written communication skills. The program also seeks to instill a deep appreciation and respect for the crucial role of the independent accountant in our free enterprise economy. This perspective provides the bedrock of the professional attitudes and responsibilities of CPAs today.
Students have the opportunity to study accounting in greater depth than is typically provided in an undergraduate accounting program or an MBA program with a concentration in accounting.
Students may apply to the M.Acc. program after completing a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university or during their senior year. An undergraduate accounting or business major is not necessary, nor is work experience a requirement. In this world of "re-engineering," the term "public accounting firm" is becoming obsolete. CPA firms now view themselves as "professional service firms." This dramatically changes the role of the CPA. The profession requires highly visible, articulate business professionals with the ability to interact on many levels within a client's organization. This requires individuals with diverse backgrounds. The profession is ideally suited for those with accounting, business, liberal arts and sciences undergraduate degrees.

TJD - Executive MBA Program at USC Marshall

The USC Marshall Executive MBA (EMBA) Program is designed for senior managers and seasoned professionals who wish to remain fully employed as they pursue their graduate studies.
This 21-month program incorporates a successful thematic MBA curriculum that gets to the heart of issues that senior managers and seasoned professionals encounter on a daily basis. We concentrate learning objectives on the 'interrelatedness' of business functions as opposed to the teaching of individual disciplines as unrelated functional entities. This approach has resulted in a program that consists of ten 'themes,' two domestic off-site sessions, and one international off-site session.
At the end of the comprehensive EMBA Program, you will earn your MBA from one of the nation's top-ranked business schools. You'll also capitalize on the strategic advantages of lifetime membership in the Trojan Family and USC Marshall's 70,000-plus alumni network.
To learn more, come to an information session.
The DifferenceTwo Outstanding LocationsChoose the setting most convenient for you. We offer our EMBA Program on USC's historic University Park Campus in Los Angeles and our new EMBA San Diego Program at the La Costa Executive Conference Center in Carlsbad, California. Classes in Los Angeles and San Diego meet bi-weekly on Fridays and Saturdays (from 8:45am to 4:30pm). All participants attend an off-site international session that provides an insightful global perspective.
Blend of Theory/PracticeWe deliver an effective blend of theory and practice through carefully sequenced individual class sessions. There are no stand-alone courses in statistics, economics, accounting or any of the traditional business school disciplines. Rather, we present the curriculum (and related projects) much like the business world presents situations to a senior manager.
Customer ServiceBecause of the severe time constraints that USC Marshall EMBA students face, our mission is to remove all of the red tape and bureaucracy that often exists at educational institutions. Our program office staff is dedicated to the notion that your goal is to learn, not to stand in lines. All administrative issues are coordinated seamlessly through this office, allowing you to make the most of your time at USC Marshall.

T21 - Executive Lancaster MBA Program, Lancaster University

EMBA programme content

Introductory workshop

The workshop introduces participants to each other and to staff; creates the tutor groups that will see participants through the programme; and helps to begin the process of building effective and lasting relationships. It is also the first opportunity for the EMBA programme to mix with, and compete against, students on the Full-time MBA programme.
Students learn about the full range of library services, methods of keeping in contact via an Internet-supported conference facility, and other University services. This workshop uses a number of practical exercises to introduce the principle of action learning which forms the educational ethos of the programme.
Module 1: Strategic managementIn this module we explore different frameworks for making sense of strategic management, using examples from the organisations represented in the class to illustrate different approaches. We aim to create an appreciation of the “science” of strategy, whilst also giving participants an appreciation for the “art” of strategy. The module deals with determination of strategic direction and the management of the strategic process. Participants will be involved simultaneously with the analytical, behavioural, and creative aspects of business. For functional specialists the module will give an appreciation of the linkage between functional and corporate issues.
The economics element of the module aims to provides a simple framework for beginning to understand some of the behaviour observed in firms, markets, networks and industries and offer some suggestions as to appropriate forms of optimising behaviour. The discussion will emphasise that while the assumptions and devices used in introductory economics may sometimes seem simple and abstracted from reality, it can nonetheless often provide a powerful framework for interpreting and framing strategic issues.
Module 2: Accounting and financeIn this module, you will be introduced to published financial statements and gain practice in using them to value and compare different organisations. We discuss how management accounting is used for various planning and control purposes within organisations and look more broadly at performance measurement using concepts such as balanced scorecards. We examine the financial analysis of alternative investment options and the various methods which can be used for this. We also discuss how the City works and the various factors which are important in valuing shares on the Stock Exchange.
Module 3: Operations management and marketingIn this module, we discuss how an organisation decides which markets it is going to attack and the different ways in which it will meet the needs of customers with appropriate mixes of product, price, promotion and delivery channel in these markets. We also explore how organisations use their distinctive marketing assets such as strong brands, dominance of elements of the supply or delivery chain and access to areas of special power and influence. This is followed up with discussion of how organisations deliver products and services through operations management. This includes how organisations choose an operations strategy and implement it through appropriate choices of process and infrastructure to meet 'order winning' and 'order-qualifying' criteria demanded by customers. These choices will be illustrated through cases and discussions about the organisations represented in the class.
Module 4: Analysing organisational behaviourIn this module we examine the world of work and the ways in which recent changes have affected the process of managing, including de-layering, outsourcing and a move to leaner organisations. We reflect on the competence movement to classify those skills which are considered to be important for managers at different levels in organisations. We discuss how changes in structure and process in organisations have affected organisational cultures and the values which organisations espouse. Students carry out 'cultural audits' of organisations represented in the class and analyse the reasons why there are similarities and differences between these organisations. We will also discuss how power is obtained and used in organisations and the positive and negative effects that this can have.
Module 5: Management of changeThis module focuses on managing change and ensuring implementation of strategy. In addressing this area emphasis is placed on understanding the process of, and need for, change within a strategic context and aligning change to the delivery of strategic advantage. Emphasis is also placed on understanding strategic intent and identifying the requirement for the initiation, development and transformation of existing processes, attitudes and structures to achieve this intent and the process through which it can be achieved. The focus on change is not ‘change for change sake’ but change to deliver strategic advantage. As such this module draws on previous modules in developing an understanding and appreciation of organisational complexity.
The module explores models and frameworks for understanding and managing change, and particularly the management of individuals through change and the role of the leader within change. The potential blockages to delivering change and the impact of organisational culture, structure and power are highlighted.
Module 6: Case study examinationsThis is a group and individual process involving the analysis of two cases over four days. The examination is integrative in the sense that it requires knowledge from all four preceding modules. Groups have 24 hours to analyse a case and then, under formal examination conditions, students write their answers to specific questions that are put to them about the case.
Module 7: Consultancy challengeThe consultancy challenge forms part of the action-orientation of the Executive MBA programme. The aim is to give participants an opportunity to test out their new knowledge and skills in an unfamiliar environment, thus embedding the learning from the programme as a whole. The challange consists of a one-week group consultancy intervention with an organisation. More information
Module 8: MBA electivesMBA electives are condensed modules, each comprising 24 hours of teaching. You choose which electives you wish to study, enabling you to mix and match elective courses to suit your interests.
The MBA Elective programme is where the 2 different modes of study – the Full-time and the Executive MBA – converge. Mixing with participants from the other programme will provide you with a richer experience and help you to further extend your networking. More information
Module 9: Project and dissertationThe project is a substantial piece of action research over a nine-month period to be conducted in your organisation, requiring the application of appropriate theory to an issue of central concern to your organisation. Examples are the development of a new strategic direction for a business, or an in-depth study of an area in the business that is problematic and requiring urgent attention.

KSP - Aston MBA at Aston Business School

Maybe you want an MBA that will put your CV in the 'interview' pile. Maybe you want an MBA that will equip you to start a successful business. Or, maybe you want an MBA that will make you stand out from other managers in the eyes of your employer.
You definitely want an MBA that will repay your investment many times over. The Aston MBA has a track record of achieving all of these objectives. It marks you out as a well-informed, effective manager, able to analyse and solve complex business problems. Quite simply, it equips you to fulfil your own ambitions.
And, while there are different modes of study through which to achieve the Aston MBA, you’ll find the content and value is the same whichever you choose.
Our MBA programme has been consistently recognised as one of the leading MBA programmes in the world. The MBA is accredited by AMBA, and the school is also accredited by EQUIS and AACSB, one of only a small number of schools worldwide to hold this triple accreditation.
The quality of the Aston MBA rests on the excellence of our teaching and research, and the very strong links with employers that run through everything that we do. All MBA modules feature corporate connections and an international dimension. The vast majority of academic staff at Aston have many years of experience in industry and are at the cutting edge of research in their particular fields.
In early 2006, we opened a £22 million extension to the business school, offering first class teaching and study facilities for our MBA students. And for a change in scenery, full time students visit and study at a top European Business School for a week, which is included in the cost. In previous years, MBA students have visited New York, Nice, Paris, Barcelona and Leuven. In turn we host MBA students from our International partners. The Aston MBA is a programme for candidates who really mean business and who have the confidence and stamina to make the grade.
Full time MBA
Commences mid-September.
The full time MBA course is taught over three terms and followed up with a business project. You will complete up to five modules each term, with each module based on 100 learning hours and 30-40 hours in class. It is possible to complete the course by the end of July if you have an early offer of employment.
Full time students will visit and study at a top European Business School for a week, which is included in the cost. In previous years, MBA students have visited New York, Nice, Paris, Barcelona and Leuven. In turn, we host MBA students from our international partners.
You can transfer to the part time or distance learning routes during the year, if a job offer or personal commitments demand.
Part time MBA
Commences January & October.
The taught part of the programme can be completed in 21 months, after which there is a project of up to 6 months’ duration. Most part time students study 2 modules per term for 6 terms. They then complete a project that typically takes another 6 months.
You would study on campus once a week for three hours per module, either during the day or in the evening. You would also attend regular skills workshops run by our MBA Careers Advisor. At this pace, you would need to do 6-10 hours of private study a week, too.
You can swap to Distance Learning and back, change the pace at which you study, or take breaks of up to a year if work or personal commitments demand.
MBA by Distance Learning
(Available in the UK and the rest of Europe only). Commences January, April & October.
For many years the Aston MBA has been pioneering distance learning. You will be sent DVDs that contain a recording of the actual lecture that was delivered at Aston to the oncampus students, plus PDF files of notes and handouts. It’s like having a seat in the classroom but without the need to leave your home or office. And three times a year you must attend a study weekend here at Aston. Examinations also take place on-campus.
Unlike many other business schools, the degree awarded is the regular Aston MBA, not a special Distance Learning version.

Why the Warwick Business School?

Professional and personal developmentOur outstanding research leadership coupled with our extensive corporate relationships and practitioner links enable the creation of unique research-to-practice links. Using corporate input, we take a personal development approach in our curriculum to meet the needs of employers looking for quality. The Warwick experienceWe create a welcoming environment that supports you, teaches you, and works alongside you, helping you achieve your goals. Studying with WBS is inspiring in many ways: a vibrant community and a heady mix of intellectual possibilities to explore in person or at a distance. These are some of the elements that make the Warwick experience unique. Stimulating studyYour peers will be a diverse range of participants from around the world. Our teaching faculty is highly international, and the focus within the classroom is on global and international management. We have comparatively small intakes which results in greater collaboration and an emphasis on teamwork and shared experience. Great career prospectsWe measure our success by the success of our graduates and we work hard to help them achieve their goals. Our graduates are highly attractive to businesses all over the world because they not only have the knowledge but they truly understand how to apply it. Not all our graduates want promotion, or more money. Some want the skills and the confidence to start their own business, or to switch direction entirely. Some want to get out of their niche and into general management. Whatever your definition of success, we can help you achieve it.Our reputation goes with youWBS performs consistently well across a range of global rankings. We are regarded by academics, employers, and external surveys as one of the top MBA programmes in the UK. An MBA from us means business. Networking opportunitiesYour fellow participants on the programme will be a valuable source of information and enthusiasm. Our participants have worked for an average of 10 years in senior management, and sharing personal experiences is crucial to grounding the programme in the realities of the workplace. Our alumni are some of our enthusiastic supporters. Through your peers, and our alumni community, you will have access to unrivalled networking and learning opportunities during and after your studies with us.The skills I built during The Warwick MBA have been just as valuable as the thorough grounding in theories and management tools. Working in small, close-knit teams, trying to draw the best from each other's skills and experiences to address a business problem, was invaluable preparation for our way of working at McKinsey.Jeremy Clarke MBA (Warwick), Associate, McKinsey & Co

Very few schools can match the flexibility of our programme. Choose a mode for your seven core modules, mix and match for your six electives, and complete a management consultancy project. However hard it gets, and it will, we will be there to support you every step of the way. Study with us, and we know you can achieve great things.Full-time: An accelerated 12 month MBA, with a highly international and experienced class.Executive: Studied part-time over three years, delivered in week-long (Monday to Friday) residential modules. Allows you to plan in advance and minimise disruption to professional and personal responsibilities.Distance learning: Gives you maximum flexibility. Allows you to study from anywhere in the world. Ideal if you travel regularly, or professional or personal commitments make it difficult to attend regular classes.Whichever way you learn, there's a common curriculum and project to conclude. The biggest surprise for me has been the levels of newly-found confidence that the Warwick MBA has given me. I feel revived and ready to take on all sorts of new challenges, both professionally and personally. It is a very powerful feeling.Rachel Cooper MBA (Warwick), Lecturer in Business Studies & Accounting, Worcester College of Technology
WBS is a great place to study. There are many reasons you might choose to study for the Warwick MBA, but undoubtedly our fantastic campus and thriving social scene will play a part in helping you decide to come here.WBS is set in the beautifully landscaped campus of the University of Warwick. All participants spend some time here, with syndicate group work helping people mix and integrate. It's a great place to come and get away from the rat race. The green spaces make for a relaxing environment while our proximity to Coventry, Birmingham, Stratford, and Warwick gives you access to contemporary urban life. We're only an hour away from London, but the atmosphere couldn't be more different. One of the huge benefits of coming to WBS is that it's not in London, and therefore your living costs are considerably lower. In 2005 the Mercer HR Cost of Living Survey found Warwick to be around 30 per cent cheaper than the capital. Our accommodation is top quality, whether you're here full-time or just overnight. Living here, you won't feel like you're surrounded by buildings, and there's plenty to do when you're not studying.Thinking of bringing your family with you while you study here? It's a lovely place to live.

Wharton’s spirit is entrepreneurial at all levels – active, innovative, and risk-taking. And our depth of resources gives you the means to translate your ideas into action. You might start your own business – or help members of the community launch businesses through the active Small Business Development Center. Or you might consult with an on-campus entrepreneur in our distinctive Entrepreneur-in-Residence program, sponsored by Wharton Entrepreneurial Programs (WEP), the center for entrepreneurial activity at Wharton.
Wharton and Penn both provide resources to develop entrepreneurial skills and start entrepreneurial ventures. Tapping into these opportunities, students develop an adaptive, risk-tolerant management style that they can bring to jobs in consulting, high-growth companies, and other worldwide industries.

Wharton Entrepreneurial ProgramsThe driving force behind the entrepreneurial resources at Wharton is one of the most influential centers of entrepreneurship in the world, the Wharton Entrepreneurial Programs (WEP). More than 20 professors and practitioners bring cutting-edge research and years of successful entrepreneurial experience, both sharing that knowledge in class and helping to guide entrepreneurial initiatives. For more about WEP, including interviews with alumni entrepreneurs, see the online newsletter, Get It Started.

The Annual Business Plan CompetitionThis well-established competition provides more than $40,000 in cash prizes to student teams with ideas for new ventures. In addition to valuable advice and support from more than 200 venture capitalists, students learn from entrepreneurs and other professionals who serve as judges and mentors. Finalists present their business ideas to a panel of distinguished judges in an event that brings students together with angel investors, venture capitalists, Wharton alumni, entrepreneurs, and others from the entrepreneurial business community.

Small Business Development Center (SBDC)The SBDC offers consulting services to Philadelphia-area entrepreneurs and small business owners. MBA students are employed by the SBDC as senior consultants (full-time in the summer and part-time during the academic year). Students help entrepreneurs craft business plans, manage expansion strategies, and raise capital.

Venture Initiation ProgramThe Venture Initiation Program (VIP) provides MBA students with the entrepreneurial management education, support, and facilities essential to start successful new businesses. While course work can lay a solid foundation for entrepreneurial activities, students may need more help to turn their ideas into successful businesses. VIP — created by Wharton Entrepreneurial Programs and the Wharton Small Business Development Center — walks students through the steps of kicking off their enterprise and approaching capital markets.

Entrepreneur-in-Residence ProgramThis program gives students the opportunity to meet one-on-one with successful entrepreneurs. Students sign up to meet with a Wharton Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) to talk over ideas and strategies for a successful entrepreneurial venture or simply life as an independent business person. A different EIR holds office hours on campus each week during the academic year. Recent EIRs have included founders, presidents, and CEOs of Amden, Bayada Nurses, BizRate, Boston Scientific, CDNow, Digene, Half.com, Hasbro, J.D. Power & Associates, Medsite, Metropolitan Bakery, Optiant, Shopzilla, TargetCast, Texas Monthly, and Travelocity.

The Center for Technology Transfer (CTT)This University of Pennsylvania center gives MBA and other students the opportunity to help launch startup companies by turning new ideas from Penn research into business ventures. More than 50 ventures have been designed to commercialize biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and software — even create a set of innovative horseshoes developed by veterinary faculty. The CTT allows students to work with entrepreneurs, individual investors, venture capitalists, and faculty to develop, advise, and sometimes lead these new firms.
